Religious or traditional marriages are not legally recognised in Australia unless they are registered with the relevant state or territory Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages. ASLA permits marriages at Ar-Rahmah Masjid only when they are officiated by a registered Muslim Marriage Celebrant.
An Islamic marriage (Nikah) requires free consent from both parties, the presence of a male guardian (Waliy) for the bride, two sane adult Muslim witnesses, and the payment of a mandatory financial gift (Mahr) by the groom to the bride.
This form must be filled and submitted to the authorised person of the Masjid Management one month prior to the intended Nikah Ceremony. Complete this form using BLOCK LETTERS.
Note: If you require a letter or certificate as proof of marriage, please contact your marriage celebrant — not the Masjid.
